Record Breaking Results for the Christmas Tree Collection

Having sponsored the annual Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling Scheme for the last four years, we're delighted to witness its continued growth and success. This year, the annual initiative wrapped up its operations with a record breaking £33,559. The results have brought the overall donations for the Jersey Hospice Care to over £300,000 since the start of the initiative in 2005.

The Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling Scheme was brought to us by Joanna Hewlett, our Head of HR, in 2014 and has since become one of the highlights of the year in the Jersey community's calendar. For the last four years, we've been supporting the scheme with marketing activities and have been privileged to witness the generosity of local businesses and volunteers who donate transport, food, and most importantly their time to make this initiative a success every year.

This year the Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling Scheme ran during the first week of January, collecting trees from local business and residential addresses in return for donations to Jersey Hospice Care. Over 2,150 trees were collected, raising a record breaking £33,559 in the process. Over 55 volunteers in 26 vans collected Christmas trees island-wide and delivered them to the Green Waste Recycling facilities. With the support from States of Jersey Department for Infrastructure, the trees will be turned into soil improver for local gardens and farmland.

Thanks to the generosity of residents and businesses, the average donation this year increased by over a pound, up to £15.50 in comparison to last year's average of £14.08. All the donations are going towards the support of Jersey Hospice Care, a specialist palliative care charity, which requires over £5.3m a year to operate amounting to £14,600 daily.

Joanna Hewlett said:
"The results of this year's Christmas tree collection are tremendous. We're proud to be a part of this initiative, which raises funds for an amazing local charity as well as positively impacts the environment. Having sponsored this initiative since 2014, we're excited to see it grow every year and provide valuable support to the hospice."

The scheme receives great support from a variety of local businesses, including local garden centres, Webreality, Jersey Post, Randall's, M&S and Jersey Evening Post.

Sacha Patel, Income Generation Manager at Jersey Hospice Care, commented:

"This year has been a huge success and it would not have happened without the continued support from our community. The generosity of local businesses, residents and volunteers is astounding and once again the scheme proved to be a wonderful fundraiser."

We would like to thank all volunteers for their time and ongoing support as this initiative wouldn't happen without you.
